Hunter Renfrow isn’t ready to walk away from football just yet. After spending the 2024 season out of the league, the former Pro Bowl wide receiver is making moves to secure his return. Renfrow, once a vital piece of the Las Vegas Raiders’ offense, has recently visited two teams—the Raiders and the Carolina Panthers—indicating strong interest in his services for the 2025 season.
The 29-year-old slot receiver, known for his crisp route-running and clutch performances, first made his mark at Clemson, where he helped lead the Tigers to two national championships. Now, he’s hoping to write the next chapter of his NFL career.
A Promising Start and Sudden Decline
Renfrow was selected by the Raiders in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft and quickly established himself as a reliable slot receiver. His breakout season came in 2021 when he recorded 103 receptions for 1,038 yards and nine touchdowns, earning his first Pro Bowl selection. His performance secured him a two-year, $32 million contract extension with the Raiders. However, injuries and a changing offensive scheme led to a sharp decline in production. He played just 10 games in 2022 and, despite appearing in all 17 games in 2023, he managed only 25 catches for 255 yards and no touchdowns. This led to his release in March 2024.
Raiders Reunion or Fresh Start?
With the Raiders in need of receiver depth to support new quarterback Geno Smith, Renfrow could provide a familiar and reliable option. Currently, Jakobi Meyers and Tre Tucker headline the receiving corps, but the team lacks proven depth behind them. A potential reunion with Vegas could make sense for both parties, giving Renfrow a chance to revive his career in an environment where he’s already had success.
On the other hand, a fresh start in Carolina could also be appealing. The Panthers, looking to build around young quarterback Bryce Young, could benefit from Renfrow’s veteran presence and steady hands in the slot. His connection to the state, given his Clemson background, adds another layer of intrigue to the potential signing.
What’s Next for Renfrow?
Renfrow’s visits suggest that teams still see value in his skill set, and his track record as a dependable target speaks for itself. If he can regain the form that made him a Pro Bowler in 2021, he could be a valuable addition to a receiving corps in need of reliable hands and sharp route-running.
For now, Renfrow remains a free agent, but his journey back to the NFL is gaining traction. Whether it’s with the Raiders, Panthers, or another team, football fans may soon see the sure-handed receiver back on the field, ready to prove he still has plenty left in the tank.
