Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant etched his name deeper into NBA history, passing Kevin Garnett to claim 13th place on the league’s all-time field goals made (FGM) list. The milestone came during the Suns’ 123-112 triumph over the Cleveland Cavaliers on March 20, 2025, marking their third straight win while extending Cleveland’s losing streak to four games.
Durant delivered a masterclass, racking up 42 points, six rebounds, and eight assists. He shot 17-of-29 from the floor, including 4-of-9 from three-point range, bringing his career tally to 10,506 FGM. This feat moved him ahead of Garnett and left him just seven made shots away from surpassing John Havlicek (10,513 FGM) for 12th place. At the top of the leaderboard remains Kareem Abdul-Jabbar with an astounding 15,837 career field goals.
Durant now finds himself among elite company, trailing only these NBA greats: LeBron James (40,179), Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38,387), Karl Malone (36,928), Kobe Bryant (33,643), Michael Jordan (32,292), Dirk Nowitzki (31,560), and Wilt Chamberlain (31,419).
A Historic Scoring Legacy
Adding another accolade to his illustrious career, Durant recorded his 72nd game with 40 or more points. He joins an exclusive group of legends—LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar—as just the fourth player in NBA history to notch multiple 40-point games in his 17th season or beyond. Further solidifying his scoring prowess, Durant has now registered a 40+ point performance against every team in the league.
Durant and Suns Focus on Playoff Push
As the Suns fight for a postseason berth, currently sitting 10th in the Western Conference, Durant emphasized the importance of building momentum.
“Especially around this time of year, it’s important to get big wins and to have some good momentum,” Durant said postgame. “I’ve liked the style of play that we’ve had the last few games on both ends of the floor.”
Suns head coach Mike Budenholzer lauded Durant’s offensive mastery against some of the league’s top defenders. “Those are some great defenders that he’s going against, and there are some nights where he can just get to his spots, get to his shots, and score at a high rate. He was special tonight,” Budenholzer noted.
Key Contributions from Suns’ Supporting Cast
While Durant spearheaded the scoring effort, Phoenix benefited from solid performances by other key players. Devin Booker recorded 17 points, two rebounds, and 10 assists, while Tyus Jones added 16 points, three rebounds, and three assists. Royce O’Neale also chipped in with 15 points, five rebounds, and two assists.
With the win, the Suns improved to 34-37 and now prepare for a crucial showdown against the Milwaukee Bucks on March 24. Meanwhile, the Cavaliers, looking to snap their skid, must regroup as they aim to solidify their playoff positioning.
